Sixers sign Varnado

It's official.  The 76ers announced the signing of Jarvis Varnado for the rest of the season on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-10 power forward originally signed a 10-day contract with the franchise on March 1.

It was first reported by Yahoo Sports on Tuesday that  the Sixers would Varnado sign him for the rest of the season. The report stated that Varnado has a team option with guaranteed money for next season.

The former Mississippi State standout was called up from the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League.  He averaged 2.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in five games with the Sixers. Varnado blocked three shots against the Orlando Magic on March 2.

He had averaged 14.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and D-League best 4.7 blocked shots with the Energy.  Varnado was the 41st overall pick by the Miami Heat in the 2010 draft.
