Sixers say Joel Embiid's future still uncertain

MIAMI -- Based on Wednesday morning's shootaround, the 76ers don't appear to be in a rush to get Joel Embiid back on the court.

Embiid, who has a left-knee injury, wore a gray Adidas T-shirt and a matching pair of red shorts. The rookie center was stretched out by one of the team doctors when the media was allowed into the shootaround. Meanwhile, the Sixers' other two injured players on hand - Jerryd Bayless (wrist) and Tiago Splitter (calf) - donned team-issued practice gear.

After being stretched, Embiid chatted with people as his teammates participated in end-of-shootaround drills.  He looked more like someone being around his teammates for the final 23 games instead of someone putting in the proper rehabilitation to return this season.

It would be shocking if Embiid plays this season.

The Sixers announced Monday that he was sidelined indefinitely because of the injury.  He still experiences swelling and soreness in the knee after practices. The center had an MRI on Monday afternoon.

As of Wednesday morning, the team had not announced the results of the scan. The Sixers are expected to give a medical update as early as Wednesday evening. The team said they need the extra time to seek further insight on his knee. They want members of their medical team to be in agreement with what they see in the MRI results.
