Pelicans provide Sixers' best chance for win

Mired in a 12-game losing streak, the 76ers have to feel somewhat optimistic about their chances in Tuesday night's contest against the New Orleans Pelicans.

More than half of the players on the Pelicans roster are out with season-ending injuries.

Former Sixers point guard Jrue Holiday is done for the season after suffering an orbital fracture. All-Star power forward Anthony Davis had season-ending left knee surgery. Ryan Anderson is out indefinitely with a sports hernia, and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Alonzo Gee (right quadriceps), Chester native Tyreke Evans (right knee), Eric Gordon (fractured right ring finger), Quincy Pondexter (left knee) and Bryce Dejean-Jones (fractured right wrist) are all also done for the season.  Meanwhile, Norris Cole (lower back) is questionable for Tuesday's matchup at Wells Fargo Center.

So facing the Pelicans (29-47) with a home crowd behind them, one would think the Sixers (9-68) would finally have a solid opportunity to stop their skid.

With five games remaining, one victory would also prevent them from tying two futility marks.

The worst record during an 82-game regular season is 9-73, set by the 1972-73 Sixers. The Dallas Mavericks were 46-200 over the 1991-92, '92-93, and '93-94 seasons for the worst three-year run in NBA history. The Sixers are 46-195 since the start of the 2013-14 season.
