It appears a safe bet that Thursday’s 3 p.m. trading deadline will come and go pretty quietly for the 76ers. Perhaps that’s not the news fans want to hear, but for the time being, at least, this Andrew Bynum fiasco kind of has the organization at a standstill.

“We are working the phones, but I don’t think we’ll be doing anything major,” said general manager Tony DiLeo before Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves that opened the unofficial second half of the season. “If we do something, it will be minor. But it doesn’t look like we’ll take on any big salaries or anything like that.”

DiLeo has stated all season that Bynum is part of their future plans, but that was when optimism was still high that the 7-footer could play a decent amount of games for the team. Now with him saying on Tuesday that he’s still at least a couple of weeks away from full scrimmaging, those thoughts may be changing, though DiLeo isn’t saying.

“I don’t pay much attention to it,” said coach Doug Collins of the trade deadline. “The thing is that there are so many rumors now. I think people just throw stuff out there to see if it will fit. I’ve always said that I try to say to guys that if their name is being mentioned that means somebody likes you, so try to put a positive spin on it and be flattered that people are talking about you. Nobody really wants to get traded. A lot of guys think that the grass is always greener and stuff but at the end of the day most guys don’t want to be traded.

I have not talked to (DiLeo) at all. Our phones I think are pretty quiet. If he sees something or hears something he’ll give me a call.”
