Forbes: Sixers valued at $800 million

The 76ers have shown that you don't have to win games to be profitable.

According to Forbes magazine, the Sixers' value has risen to $800 million from the roughly $290 million Josh Harris, David Blitzer and investors bought the team for in 2011. The magazine believes the team's worth will ascend higher because of drafting Ben Simmons with the first overall pick in the 2016 draft.

The Sixers have already set a franchise record for full season ticket packages sold for next season. They are on pace to exceed 13,000.

Not bad for a team that finished 10-72 in the 2015-16 season. It was the second-worst record in league history for an 82-game regular season.

The Sixers have had only one winning campaign in the last 12 seasons. And that came during the strike-shortened 2011-12 season when they finished 35-31 in the regular season before advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

They have won only 26.6 percent of their games in the five seasons since then.

So it's easy to see why the ownership group is trusting the process.
