76ers wing Robert Covington has replaced Michael Carter-Williams in the Rising Stars Challenge scheduled for Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The event has been modified. Ten of the league's top rookie and second-year players from the United States will face 10 of the league's top first- and second-year players from around the world. Covington and Sixers rookie center Nerlens Noel are members of the American team.
Carter-Williams pulled out because of a strained right big toe that has sidelined him the past three games. He is the reigning rookie of the year. Covington is averaging 13.2 points and shooting 38.9 percent on three-pointers.
