Carter-Williams expected to miss game

Michael Carter-Williams doesn't expect to play in Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Well Fargo Center.

Judging by his limping around the team's practice facility Monday morning, all signs lead to the 76ers point guard being sidelined for the third consecutive game.

However, the offical word is that he remains a game-time decision after being released from the University of Pennsylvania Hospital on Sunday.

The rookie spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the hospital because of soreness and a skin infection on the front of his right knee.

"I don'think so," Carter-Williams said of playing against the Clippers. "I'm just going day to day. I don't know when I'm going to be back. When everyone says it will be okay for me to come back, [he'll play.]

The 22-year-old is on antibiotics and is waiting for the soreness to go away before he takes the court. The Sixers hope is he'll make the two-game road trip to the Minnesota Timberwolves (Wednesday) and the Toronto Raptors (Friday).

"I want to play all the time," he said. "You guys know that. When I was in the hospital, I wish I was out there playing.

"I do play through a lot of pain. But the smart thing to do is to get the okay from everybody first until I play."

The 6-foot-6, 185-pounder could have suffered the injury against the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 1 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. He remained in that game.

"It was bothering me," he said of his knee. "I really didn't think anything of it. I told the trainers and the people and they did a great job of treatment on it. We did everything we could each and every day.

"And you know, it kept getting worse. It kept getting red and you know they were cautious."

Carter-Williams didn't miss any time and played against the Orlando Magic at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night.

Despite banging his knee against the Magic, he finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the 126-125 double-overtime victory.

"It went down a little bit, actually," Carter-Williams said. "And then it blew up again at the Orlando game. So that's when I knew there was really something wrong."

The 11th overall pick out of Syracuse didn't participate on on-court drills Thursday. He went to the team doctor's office after practice. While there, CarterWilliams was instructed to go the hospital while his teammates flew to Charlotte for Friday's game against the Bobcats.

"It was getting real red and the swelling was increasing," he said.

The NBA Eastern Conference rookie of the month is set to miss his seventh game of the season.

Carter-Williams missed four other games with a bruise to the arch of his left foot.
