Brown to represent Sixers at draft lottery

Brett Brown will be 76ers' on-stage representative at the NBA Draft Lottery at the New York Hilton Midtown grand ballroom on May 17.

As a result, the head coach will be the face of the franchise while the order for June 23's NBA draft is being revealed.

"It's my privilege and my honor to do that," Brown said Monday.

He was asked to present the team while in New York two weeks ago with co-managing owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer and Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil and team president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo.

"I feel a responsibility of course to do it," Brown said. "With the situation that we have all been through, Tuesday night [May 17] ends up being a really big night. It ends up a very important night.  Just to be a part of it, to represent our city to represent the Philadelphia 76ers, it's my privilege."

By now, most folks know the Sixers (10-72) secured a 25 percent chance to win the first pick during the draft lottery by finishing with the worst record. They also have a 64.3 percent chance to place in the top three and will finish no lower than fourth.

They will also get the Lakers' pick if it falls out of the top three. The Sixers also have the right to swap first-round picks with the Sacramento Kings. So if the Kings get the first pick, the Sixers will take it.

The Sixers will also get the 24th (from Miami Heat) and 26th (from Oklahoma City Thunder) picks in the draft.

The team was awarded the third slot in each of last two draft lotteries, drafting Jahlil Okafor last summer and Joel Embiid in 2014.

The Sixers have compiled a 47-199 mark over the past three seasons while sacrificing wins to secure top lottery picks.
