"Best" and "Worst" awards: Sixers vs. Hornets

My look at some of the best and worst performances from the Charlotte Hornets' 100-85 victory over the 76ers Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center:

Best performance: It was a no-brainer to give this award to Nic Batum. It didn't take long for the Hornets swingman to record his second triple-double of the season.  He finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in 37 minutes, 35 seconds of action. But Batum actually only needed 24:53 to record the triple-double on a rebound with 6:14 left in the third quarter.

Worst performance: There's no way that Isaiah Canaan could have avoided receiving this award. The Sixers shooting guard finished with 10 points, but shot 3-for-10 from the field. He graded out with a game-worst minus-21.

Best defensive performance:  This award goes to Ish Smith. The Sixers point guard finished with a game-high three blocks, and also did a solid job helping to defending Kemba Walker. The standout Hornets point guard finished made just 5 of 19 shots en route to finishing with 16 points.

Best performance by a Sixer: Robert Covington gets this one. The finished with a team-high 18 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists while starting in place of the injured Jerami Grant (right knee bruise and bruised right quadriceps). He made six three-pointers on 14 attempts.  He has now made at least six three-pointer in a Sixers record nine career games.

Worst statistic:  This goes to the Sixers' shooting percentage on two-point shots. They made just 14 of 52 three-point shots (26.9 percent).

Best statistic:  This award goes to Hornets' fouls. They committed just seven fouls in large part because the Sixers chose not to drive the lane and settled for jumpers.

Worst of the Worst: The Sixers' current situation.  This setback extended their current losing streak to 10 games, marking the fourth time that they had a losing streak of at least 10 games.
