'Best' and 'Worst' award: Sixers vs. Nets

This is my look at some of the best and worst performances from the Brooklyn Nets' 99-91 victory over the 76ers on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Center.

Best performance:  Kevin Garnett didn't come close to being the Nets' highest scorer.  Nor did he wow folks with his game.  But he gets this award for coming up the big plays that won the game.  With his team clinging to a 90-89 lead, Garnett made a foul shot with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining. Sixers guard Tony Wroten turned the ball over on the next possession before Garnett drained a 19-foot jumper with 32.8 seconds left. The Nets never looked back. The power forward finished with nine points, nine rebounds, four steals, three assists, one block and three turnovers.

Worst performance:  I had to give this to Michael Carter-Williams for the third-consecutive game even though he had eight assists. The point guard struggling mightily from the field, making just 1 of 9 shot attempts.  He finished with six rebounds, three turnovers and one block before fouling out with 1:13 left.  That foul sent Garnett to the line, when he made the clutch free throw.

Best defensive performance:  Brook Lopez wins this award two days after twin brother, Robin, won it when his Portland team beat the Sixers. On this night, Brook had a game-high three blocked shots. He actually had seven rebounds – six on the defensive end.

Best performance in a losing effort:  K.J. McDaniels gets this award. The Sixers rookie finished with career highs of 18 points and six rebounds on a night when his athleticism was on full display. McDaniels made 2 of 5 three-pointers, marking the sixth game that he's made at least two three-pointers.

Worst statistic: This award goes to the Nets' second-quarter, three-point shooting. They went 1-for-7 (14.3 percent).

Best statistic: I'm giving this to the Nets' first-quarter shooting. They made 12 of 17 shots (70.6 percent).

Worst of the Worst:  This award goes to a couple of  females in the Sixers fan club called The Revolutionaries, who taunted Garnett in the fourth quarter.  He used The Revolutionaries' trash talking as motivation and stepped up his  game to make a foul and hit a clutch basket during what were  the plays on the game. Garnett even thanked the females in his post-game press conference for providing a spark.  They should have known that Garnett thrives off of trash talk.
