Best and worst awards: Sixers vs. Nets

NEW YORK – My look at some of the best and worst performances from the Brooklyn Nets 108-102 victory over the 76ers on Monday at the Barclays Center:

Best performance: This was a tough one, because Mirza Teletovic, Shaun Livingston and Deron Williams all contributed in big ways in the Nets' victory. Yet, I have to give this to Paul Pierce. The Brooklyn power forward had nine shot attempts, making five. However, he made all 14 of his foul shots en route to scoring a game-high 25 points. His final two free throws came after the Sixers pulled within two points on James Anderson's three-pointer with 22.7 seconds left. Michael Carter-Williams sent Pierce to the foul line seven seconds later. The future Hall of Famer went on to give the Nets a 106-102 cushion.

Worst performance: This has to go to Nets swingman Alan Anderson. He missed seven of his eight field-goal attempts en route to finishing with five points. He also had as many turnovers (three) as rebounds (three).

Best defensive performance:  Kevin Garnett gets this award. The Nets center blocked five shots to go with two steals. The South Carolina native also finished with six points, seven rebounds – five on the defensive end – and four assists in 20 minutes.

Best performance in a losing effort: James Anderson wins this award. The Sixers shooting guard didn't lead the team in scoring.  But he was efficient and didn't hurt his team in the turnover department.  Anderson finished with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. He also had five rebounds, three assists, a team-high two steals and one turnover. His last statistic is perhaps the most impressive, considering the Sixers had 26 on this night.

Worst statistic: You have to give this to the 26 turnovers.  You knew it would be a bad night when they turned the ball over nine times in the first quarter.

Best statistic: This award goes to Brooklyn's steals. The Nets finished with 15 steals. Shaun Livingston had seven of them.

Worst of the Worst:  This award goes to the Sixers' start. They trailed 19-4 with 4 minutes, 13 seconds left in the first quarter thanks in large part to seven early turnovers.
