Australian coach speaks highly of addition from Sixers

Former NBA center Chris Anstey, the coach CTI Melbourne United, spoke highly of his team's newest addition, 76ers rookie Jordan McRae.

The 6-foot-6 McRae, was acquired by the Sixers after being selected 58th overall in the NBA draft by San Antonio. In four Las Vegas Summer League games with the Sixers, he averaged a team-high 21 points.

"We are thrilled to have Jordan join us and play a part in his continued development, in consultation with Sixers coaching staff, to give him the best possible chance of making their roster next year or earlier," Anstey said in an email reply to The Inquirer.

Anstey confirmed published reports that the Sixers have the right to call McRae back until January. McRae's contract is for a year.

The Sixers are looking for McRae to develop by getting extended minutes in Australia. Last season McRae averaged 18.5 points but despite his offensive numbers, he is known more for his defensive game.

"We like Jordan's length and ability to score the ball in numerous ways," said Anstey, who played three NBA seasons, the final in 1999-2000 with Chicago. "He has the potential to be an elite defender".
