'Best' and 'Worst' awards: Sixers vs. Lakers

My look at some of the best and worst performances from the Los Angeles Lakers 112-98 win over the 76ers on Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Best performance: Playing in only his eighth game of the season, Steve Nash scored a season-high 19 points and added five assists in just more than 28 minutes. He celebrated his birthday by becoming just the fourth NBA point guard to play at the age of 40. The others were Bob Cousy, John Stockton and Jason Kidd. Nash was guarded by Michael Carter-Williams, who talked about how difficult it was attempting to contain Nash because of the way he runs defenders off screens. Nash shot 8 of 15 from the field, and 3 of 4 from the foul line. He had just two turnovers and also contributed four rebounds.

Worst performance: For the second straight home game, the nod goes to Michael Carter-Williams. He scored 10 points on 4 for 12 shooting and was 1 for 4 from both the free throw line and from beyond the arc. Carter-Williams had seven assists, but four turnovers.

Best defensive performance: Steve Blake contributed 14 points and eight assists, but his biggest contribution came on D where he was responsible for guarding Carter-Williams. Blake is the type of defender who fights through screens and battles and Carter-Williams didn't get a lot of great looks.

Best performance in a losing effort: Tony Wroten hit his second straight three-quarter court shot to end the third quarter. This one was from 62 feet, while the one in the previous game against Boston was from 58 feet. Wroten did much more than that. He scored 16 points in just under 18 minutes and shot 6 of 9 from the field. He also contributed four rebounds. Of course his game also had a major blemish, with four turnovers and no assists, but he still provided the instant offense the Sixers needed.

Worst statistic: The Lakers blocked nine Sixers shots and only had two of their own rejected.

Runnerup: The Sixers committed 23 turnovers, including 14 in the second half.

Best statistic: The Sixers hit a season-high 15 three-pointers, shooting 15 for 32 (46.9 percent).

Fast fact: Carter-Williams has shot under 50 percent from the field in nine consecutive games. In his last three he is 15 for 45.

Fast fact II: Lakers guard Kendall Marshall had 10 assists in 20 minutes. The last Laker to have 10+ assists in 20 or fewer minutes was Magic Johnson (10 assists in 20 minutes) at San Antonio on Mach 30, 1989.

Fast fact III: The Sixers have now given up 110 or more points 23 times this eason after doing so 11 times last year.
