Oregon's Dillon Brooks shows he could become a good Sixers fit

“You know I’m just a high-motor guy,” Brooks said. “High-motor guys can fit in a lot of places.”

Dillon Brooks showed Thursday morning why he's a good second-round option for the 76ers.

The 6-foot-6 small forward out of Oregon dominated the portion of the Sixers' six-man predraft workout that the media watched.  Brooks ran the floor well and basically scored on everyone who guarded him. On one play, he rained a three in front of former Villanova guard Josh Hart. On another, he grabbed a defensive rebound, rushed up the court and scored while being fouled by French forward Tidjan Keita. Showing emotion, Brooks yelled "And one" as the ball went through the net.

After his workout, the Canadian said he would provide scoring off the bench if the Sixers picked him in the June 22 draft.

The team has the third overall pick and four second-round selections – Nos. 36, 39, 46 and 50.

"You know I'm just a high-motor guy," Brooks said. "High-motor guys can fit in a lot of places."

This marked his first time in the Philadelphia area. The 21-year-old said he walked around after he arrived in town.  He mentioned the rich American history of the city and praised the view of the Philly skyline from the Sixers facility in Camden.

But he was also educated about the area's fan base.

"Coach told us about Philly," Brooks said.  "You know, a hard, tough place to play.  They are going to boo you if you lose. They are going to love you if you win.

"That's one thing he loves about the city. That's one thing that I love."

Brooks revealed that at Oregon he and his teammates had to win over the crowd. He said "no one" was in the stands at the start of his freshman season.

"Toward the end of my season, we were selling out every game," he said.  "That's what I love. I love to see progress in the city with my team, and that's what raises my basketball ability."

Forward Darryl Reynolds (formerly of Villanova) and guards Jack Gibbs (Davidson) and Dylan Ennis (Oregon and Villanova) also participated in Thursday morning's workout.

Brooks also worked out for the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.
