Bynum receiving previously scheduled injections

Center Andrew Bynum was in New York on Thursday to receive two previously scheduled Synvisc injections in both knees with Dr. David Altchek. The 76ers said that they expect Bynum to return to rehabilitation and basketball related activities next week possibly as soon as Sunday.

Synvisc is a joint lubricant that provides relief in his knees.

Bynum had mentioned months ago that he had planned to receive the injections sometime around the all-star break. The NBA all-star game is Sunday, Feb. 17.

The Sixers had a brief workout in preparation for Friday’ game at the Wells Fargo Center against the Sacrament Kings.

Bynum has been with the team doing basket related activities. There is no set timetable for his return.

In addition, guard Jason Richardson was in Colorado today receiving a second opinion on his left knee. Richardson has missed the last five games. He had fluid drained from the knee on Jan 17 and played 27 minutes the next day against Toronto. That was his last appearance.

Sixers forward Damien Wilkins, who missed Wednesday’s 92-84 win over Washington due to personal reasons, wasn’t at practice Thursday for the same reason.
