With two weeks left in Florida, a Phillies roster prediction

Two weeks from today, the Phillies will play their final Grapefruit League game before breaking camp. They are off Wednesday, and even with some recent cuts, there is little clarity about the team's potential roster.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Two weeks from today, the Phillies will play their final Grapefruit League game before breaking camp. They are off today, and even with some recent cuts, there is little clarity about the team's potential roster.

So let's try to predict it.

INFIELDERS (6)
1B Ryan Howard
2B Cesar Hernandez
3B Maikel Franco
SS Freddy Galvis
1B Darin Ruf
UTIL Andres Blanco

CATCHERS (2)
C Carlos Ruiz
C Cameron Rupp

These are the easiest units to project. Every player above is a lock for the roster, barring injury.

OUTFIELDERS (5)
OF Peter Bourjos
OF Odubel Herrera
OF Tyler Goeddel
OF To Be Named Later
OF David Lough

Is this cheating? Nah. It is fair to assume the Phillies will start the season with an outfielder who is not currently in camp. They have contacted teams about some veteran players on expiring deals. They still have the first waiver-claim priority, and could scour the wire for cuts at the end of the month. So, Outfielder To Be Named Later makes the team.

Lough's spot could be filled by Darnell Sweeney or Cedric Hunter. But defense will be a priority there.

Cody Asche looks to be headed for the disabled list. He has not yet played in a game. He is currently shut down. It's best not to push oblique injuries, and there isn't much incentive at this point.

STARTERS (5)
RHP Jeremy Hellickson
RHP Aaron Nola
RHP Charlie Morton
RHP Vince Velasquez
RHP Jerad Eickhoff

The order is the projected order in which they'll pitch. Eickhoff slots fifth just to give him as much time as possible to return from the fractured right thumb that slowed him earlier in camp. Every indication is that he will be ready to go, although Thursday's start against Tampa Bay should offer some more insight.

Yes, Adam Morgan has pitched well this spring. So has Velasquez. All things even, the Phillies take the younger arm with the higher upside. Morgan, if he starts in the minors, is guaranteed to see action with the Phillies this season. They will need many starters to make it through 162 games. Maybe a dozen. Who knows?

RELIEVERS (7)
RHP Andrew Bailey
RHP David Hernandez
RHP Dalier Hinojosa
RHP Jeanmar Gomez
LHP Bobby LaFromboise
RHP Hector Neris
LHP Brett Oberholtzer

Seriously, this is all guesswork based on chatter with officials and scouts. Put the names of the 15 healthy relievers still in camp into a hat, and you may do better than this prediction.

Bailey looks like the closer if the season started today. Hernandez could be on the disabled list. Elvis Araujo or James Russell could jump LaFromboise. Neris, who has thrown the ball really well in his last two outings, could implode in the next two weeks.

Edward Mujica is a veteran who could push his way into the bullpen. Same with Ernesto Frieri, although his stuff has looked lackluster this spring. Luis Garcia throws hard. So does Colton Murray. Who knows?

There could be waiver claims. Trades. You name it. With two weeks left, so much is undecided.
