With Jimmy Rollins hurt, Maikel Franco becomes No. 2 hitter

The hamstring injury to Jimmy Rollins will provide opportunities for both Freddy Galvis and Cesar Hernandez at shortstop. But, as Tuesday's lineup demonstrates, there are others who stand to benefit, too.

The hamstring injury to Jimmy Rollins will provide opportunities for both Freddy Galvis and Cesar Hernandez at shortstop. But, as Tuesday's lineup demonstrates, there are others who stand to benefit, too.

Maikel Franco, who batted sixth, seventh and eighth (twice) in his first four major-league starts, moves up to the second spot in Ryne Sandberg's lineup. Franco is 2 for 15 to start his career. Beyond Carlos Ruiz — and maybe Grady Sizemore — there are no other logical candidates to bat second.

So Franco earned his third straight start. Cody Asche should play Wednesday, but a lefthander throws Thursday, which could lead to another Franco start.

The full lineup for Game 144:

1. Ben Revere 8
2. Maikel Franco 5
3. Chase Utley 4
4. Ryan Howard 3
5. Marlon Byrd 9
6. Domonic Brown 7
7. Carlos Ruiz 2
8. Freddy Galvis 6
9. David Buchanan 1
