Vince Velasquez leaves Phils game with sore biceps

Vince Velasquez was pulled from Wednesday afternoon's start with soreness in his right biceps after throwing just two pitches.

The righthander lacked his usual velocity. The pitches registered at just 86 and 87 mph. Cubs leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler hit the second pitch to right field for a flyout. Manager Pete Mackanin and the team's trainer then came to the mound. Velasquez was quickly replaced by Brett Oberholtzer.

Velasquez showed no signs of discomfort as he walked back to the dugout. Wednesday's game was delayed by 19 minutes after a thunderstorm passed through the area. The temperature at first pitch - 57 degrees - was brisk. Those factors could have played a part in Velasquez' exit.

Velazquez had a 6.00 ERA in his last six starts. He has struggled to pitch with consistency since striking out 16 in a shutout on April 14.
