Spring countdown: Get to know Phillies relievers

Next week, there is baseball. Well, baseball players taking batting practice and playing catch. Pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater on Feb. 17. This week we preview all 65 players in camp, starting with 40-man roster players.

With last year's closer, Ken Giles, having been traded to Houston, today we preview the relievers:

LHP Elvis Araujo
The rookie pitched his best after the All-Star break until a groin injury prematurely ended his season.

RHP Jimmy Cordero
He is mentioned as a potential future closer because he throws 100 mph, but the strikeout-to-walk ratio must improve.

RHP Jeanmar Gomez
Relievers are a fickle bunch, but Gomez's decrease in walks and improved luck on fly balls made him a valuable middle man.

RHP David Hernandez
He'll have the inside track on the closer's job. That makes him a candidate to be flipped to a contender in July.

RHP Dalier Hinojosa
The Red Sox once paid him $4 million, so maybe the Phillies have something more than a fungible reliever here.

LHP Mario Hollands
He pushed his way into the bullpen with a fantastic spring in 2014, but he'll have to prove himself again after Tommy John surgery.

RHP Michael Mariot
The only one who stuck during Matt Klentak's initial waiver-wire reliever frenzy, which provides an idea of how the front office views him.

RHP Colton Murray
He survived a 40-man roster purge this winter, but does not appear to be more than organizational depth.

RHP Hector Neris
The 41 strikeouts and 10 walks in 40 1/3 innings were encouraging; the eight home runs were not.

RHP Edubray Ramos
The 23-year-old reliever could bump up to Lehigh Valley, but he's probably back in Reading for more seasoning.

LHP Daniel Stumpf
The Rule 5 pick could stick as a lefty specialist; he held lefthanded batters to a .539 OPS in double A last season.
