Revere remains on fire

This has become more than just a little hot streak for Ben Revere. It's now going on two months that the Phillies center fielder has been on a tear, with no signs of slowing down.

He entered the evening second in the National League in the batting race to Colorado's Justin Morneau. Revere raised his average four points to .315 by going 3 for 4 with two runs scored in the Phillies 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park.

Since June 26 he leads all MLB players with a .373 average. In that span, Revere has multiple hits in 25 of those 49 games.

For the season he leads the National League with 128 singles.

So naturally, Revere is fielding more questions about the batting race. He understands it comes with the territory, but he is believable when saying it is not something he dwells on.

"Of course talk always comes up (about the batting title)," Revere said after the game. "I really don't worry about it and try to have fun and win games."

When pressed, he admits that winning a batting title would be special.

"Of course it would," he said. "(To) definitely bring it back to Philly."

Then he stops himself in his tracks.

"I can't think about it too much because it becomes a distraction and hurts your game a little bit."

So he isn't thinking very much, just relying on instincts.

This is reminiscent of the streak he had last year before suffering a season-ending broken right foot.

From June 12 until the day he got hurt on July 13, Revere led all MLB players with 48 hits, while batting .407.

This has been a much longer run, but Revere insists he won't be distracted by all the attention that comes the way of a player who is chasing a batting crown.
