Phillies trade Severino Gonzalez to Miami

The Phillies traded Severino Gonzalez to Miami on Tuesday afternoon, four days after the righthanded pitcher was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for outfielder Michael Saunders.

Miami will send the Phillies a player to be named or cash. Gonzalez, 24, was the organization's minor-league pitcher of the year in 2014, but has since registered a 6.68 ERA in 66 major-league innings. He transitioned last season to the bullpen.

Gonzalez had fallen to the bottom of the team's pitching depth chart, and it was unlikely that he would be much of a factor with the Phillies.
