Even though the Phillies won’t face Cy Young favorite Felix Hernandez in this three-game series with the Seattle Mariner tonight they compete against one of the top pitchers in the American League.

RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (11-6, 2.72) will start in tonight's second the three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

Iwakuma has enjoyed tremendous success this season despite being on the DL from the end of March until May 3 with a strained tendon in his right middle finger.

Over his last nine starts he is 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA with 54 strikeouts and four walks in 64 innings. For the season he has struck out 109 and walked 12 in 139 innings.

A 2013 all-star, the 33-year-old Iwakuma is in his third season with the Mariners. He is coming off a 2-0 win over Toronto, having pitched 6 2/3 innings while allowing five hits.

The Phillies will counter with slumping RHP A.J. Burnett (6-3, 4.35).
