The Phillies picked up a pitcher and lost a pitcher in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, the early-morning event that closes out the Winter Meetings each year.
With the fourth overall selection, the Phillies selected righthanded pitcher Kevin Munson away from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Munson, 24, was 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA and 14 saves in between Triple-A Reno and Double-A Mobile in 2013.
Munson struck out 66 batters while walking 22 in 54 2/3 innings. He was Arizona's fourth round pick in the 2010 draft. He's pitched in 154 games in his minor league career, all in relief appearances.
A few picks after the Phils nabbed Munson, the New York Mets selected Seth Rosin with their pick. Rosin, who came to the Phillies from San Francisco in the Hunter Pence trade, was 9-6 with a 4.33 ERA in 26 games (23 starts) at Double-A Reading in 2013.
