Phillies prospect Nick Williams placed on DL with a concussion

Phillies prospect Nick Williams - one of the key pieces of the Cole Hamels trade - was placed on the disabled list on Friday after suffering a concussion on Wednesday night.

The lefthanded outfielder was batting .326 in 21 games at double-A Reading since being acquired from Texas. Williams has 17 homers and 55 RBIs this season in 470 at-bats between Reading and Frisco, the Rangers double-A affiliate.

Williams suffered the concussion on a collision at first base after he grounded out to third base. (See video below)

Williams, 21, has batted leadoff and played center field, filling the void left by Roman Quinn, who has been sidelined since June with a tear in his hip flexor. Williams has good speed and a strong arm. He has the versatility to play all three outfield positions.

"We'll encourage him to stay back at his place, keep the lights off and just let it do what it needs to do," Jordan said. "He'll have impact tests along the way, and again, we don't foresee this being any issue at all. It's just standard operating procedure."
