Phillies prospect J.P. Crawford sidelined by ankle injury
J.P. Crawford, the Phillies' top prospect, has not played for single-A Clearwater since Monday because of a sprained left ankle. The injury is not considered serious.
SAN FRANCISCO — J.P. Crawford, the Phillies' top prospect, played Saturday for single-A Clearwater after missing four days with a sprained left ankle. The injury was not considered serious, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said.
"We're not overly concerned," Amaro said.
Crawford was not placed on the disabled list. He reported progress Saturday to team officials, and he will be reevaluated on a daily basis.
Crawford, 19, is one of the youngest players in the Florida State League. He is hitting .274 with a .743 OPS in 48 games there. He was the team's first pick (No. 16 overall) in 2013.
