Phillies promote three in September roster expansion

NEW YORK --- A trio of September call-ups will join the Phillies on Tuesday afternoon at Citi Field.

NEW YORK --- The expected small group of September call-ups will join the Phillies on Tuesday afternoon at Citi Field.

Two of the additions will help a bullpen that has thrown the fourth-most innings in the major leagues.

The Phillies on Tuesday morning promoted righthanders Dalier Hinojosa and Colton Murray as well as catcher Erik Kratz in their first wave of September roster moves. Each came from triple-A Lehigh Valley. Murray and Kratz had their contracts selected because they were not previously on the 40-man roster.

Injured starting pitchers Chad Billingsley (flexor strain) and Matt Harrison (back) were transferred to the 60-day disabled list to clear the two 40-man roster spots.

The Phillies claimed Hinojosa, 29, off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on July 15. The Cuban righthander posted a less-than-inspiring 5.54 ERA over 13 innings with the IronPigs. He appeared in three games for the Phillies from July 31 to Aug. 6, and logged five scoreless innings.

Murray, 25, posted a 2.79 ERA over 42 innings with Lehigh Valley this season. He is a former 13th-round draft pick who has yet to appear in the majors.

Kratz, 35, bounced around baseball this season, beginning the year with the Kansas City Royals organization and moving to the Boston Red Sox and then to the Seattle Mariners before the Phillies signed him on July 17. Since joining the IronPigs, the Telford native has hit .312 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 26 games.
