The Phillies on Friday promoted reliever Nefi Ogando from triple-A Lehigh Valley to take the roster spot of Elvis Araujo, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain.

Ogando, a 26-year-old righthander from the Dominican Republic, posted a 3.33 ERA in 24 1/3 innings this season, his first with Lehigh Valley. He struck out 18, walked 11 and also hit four batters. This is his first big-league call-up. When he appears, he will be the 27th player to throw a pitch for the Phillies this season.

Araujo, 24, sustained the injury in the 11th inning of the Phillies' 13-inning loss to the New York Mets on Thursday night. The rookie lefthander had a 3.38 ERA over 34 2/3 innings.
