Phillies blank University of Tampa
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Phillies began their spring schedule Thursday afternoon by showcasing many of their top prospects in a 6-0, seven-inning win over the University of Tampa in an exhibition game at Spectrum Field.
Dylan Cozens and Roman Quinn homered. Cozens hit a two-run shot in the fifth, and Quinn had a solo homer in the third. Shortstop J.P. Crawford booted the first grounder he saw but finished with a hit, walk, and run scored. Nick Williams and Scott Kingery added singles.
The Phillies have already said that Quinn will begin the season in triple A. He had two hits and a steal on Thursday. Although it was against college players, it will be interesting to see what happens if he has a strong spring.
Mark Leiter Jr., Tyler Viza, Alberto Tirado, Miguel Nunez, Colton Murray, Pedro Beato, and Michael Mariot combined for a two-hit shutout. The Phillies will open their Grapefruit League schedule Friday afternoon in Tampa against the Yankees.
