Phillies' Revere talks candidly about the trade deadline

Ben Revere isn't like his teammate Jonathan Papelbon, who is openly trying to get out of town, but the Phillies outfielder understands that his address could be changing by the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

The 27-year-old Revere is hitting a team-leading .299 after going 2 for 4 Sunday in an 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park. Since June 3, he leads the majors with a .367 average.

Revere is one Phillies trade commodity who has drawn interest. As the deadline moved closer, he was candid when asked before the game if he thinks about the possibility of being traded.

"Of course you do," Revere said. "But . . . I am a Philadelphia Phillie. I'm with this ball club now unless somebody picks me up."

Revere, who has played all three outfield positions, understands the business of the game and why his name is among the trade deadline rumors.

"We are in a rebuilding stage with a bunch of young guys and we are trying to get prospects and young talent," Revere said. "I am one that can allow the Phillies to get those candidates."

He said he enjoys being with the Phillies, but if he is traded, he can see a positive side. "Maybe I could go to a team that can contend for a championship and go on a playoff run," he said.

As the deadline draws closer, the anxiety increases. "It is one of those deals you wait by your phone and every time it rings, you think maybe it is a deal or this may be the call," he said.

This has arguably been Revere's best season. Even though he was a .300 hitter in his previous two years with the Phillies, this season he is hitting with more power. On Sunday he tied his single-season career high with his 13th double. Revere has a career-best .719 OPS.

Revere says that no matter what happens, he wants to be a positive influence on the young Phillies. During his two full seasons in Minnesota in 2011 and 2012, the Twins lost 99 and 96 games.

"When I was one of the young guys learning on the Twins, we were struggling and had veterans helped us out and I want to do the same," he said.

One thing is for sure: Revere will be happy once the trade deadline arrives, regardless of what happens.

"Whatever happens, happens, but right now this is my family and my team and you can't let it distract your game whatsoever," he said. "I think if I was a rookie I would be freaking out, but however they decide things, I can handle it."
