Minor-league outfielder Tyson Gillies suspended 3 games for outburst

Outfielder Tyson Gillies, a member of the Phillies' 40-man roster, was suspended three games by the organization for damaging the bat rack and dugout wall Thursday at triple-A Lehigh Valley.

PHOENIX — Outfielder Tyson Gillies, a member of the Phillies' 40-man roster, was suspended three games by the organization for damaging the bat rack and dugout wall Thursday at triple-A Lehigh Valley. Gillies, 25, struck out four times in a 9-5 IronPigs loss.

It is not the first time the Phillies have reprimanded Gillies, who was acquired in 2009 as one of three players from Seattle for Cliff Lee. He was suspended in 2012 for an emotional outburst at double-A Reading's bus driver. 

Gillies is hitting just .184 with 13 strikeouts in 38 triple-A at bats. He apologized for his latest incident on Twitter:

If he doesn’t start hitting, they can wait forever.

He has battled various leg injuries that have limited the speedy centerfielder to 231 games in the past five seasons.
