Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera are on fire in the Caribbean

Maikel Franco is currently sixth in the Dominican League in OPS, hitting .272/.335/.469 with seven home runs in 147 at bats while playing for Los Gigantes.

It's worth noting that he ranks just a couple of spots above Jordany Valdespin, and that 27-year-old White Sox minor leaguer Dan Black leads the league in OPS. In other words, take the numbers for what they are worth. But at 22 years old, Franco continues to excel against players much older than he, which is a positive sign.

In 16 games with the Phillies last year, the top prospect went 10-for-56 (.179) with one walk, 13 strikeouts and two extra base hits, both doubles.

In Venezuela, Freddy Galvis is hitting .250/.320/.322 with one home run in 208 at bats, a line that is pretty much in line with his big league production thus far. Aaron Altherr is having a good winter, hitting .286/.392/.486 with four home runs and 35 strikeouts in 105 at bats.

The best performance of them al has come from Rule 5 pick Odubel Herrera, also playing in Venezuela. In 207 at bats, the second baseman is hitting .372/.432/.556 with six home runs and 29 strikeouts in 207 at bats. He will be one of the more interesting players to watch this spring.
