The Phillies beat the Yankees, 3-1, at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Grapefruit League play.

The Phillies beat the Yankees, 3-1, at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Grapefruit League play to get their first win of spring training.

Odubel Herrera had three singles and scored two runs, the second coming in the seventh inning to put the Phillies up 3-1. After stealing second, the 24-year old Herrera scored on a single by Aaron Altherr. It was Altherr’s third-straight game with an RBI, if you include the team’s exhibition game against the University of Tampa.

Herrera, who the Phillies obtained in December’s Rule 5 Draft, has run the bases well thus far throughout spring training.

Phillies starting pitcher Kevin Slowey lasted two scoreless inning. He allowed one hit and struck out two batters in his short stint on the mound. The 30-year-old righthander is a non-roster invitee. He pitched mostly out of the bullpen last season for Miami, but was a starter with Minnesota from 2007 to 2010.

The game represented Alex Rodriguez's first since September 23, 2013. Rodriguez went 1-2 with a walk.

The Phillies will be back in action Thursday against the Astros at Osceola County Stadium.
