Kelly Dugan elects to become a minor league free agent

Outfielder Kelly Dugan, outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster on Oct. 19, was among the minor leaguers who elected free agency before the weekend.

Dugan, 25, was the Phillies' top draft pick in 2009. They selected him in the second round, 75th overall, in a year in which they forfeited their first-round pick by signing Raul Ibanez during the previous offseason.

Dugan, a corner outfielder, was hampered by injuries throughout his seven seasons in the Phillies' farm system. Only twice did he play more than 100 games. This past season he made it to triple-A Lehigh Valley but hit only .221 with a .592 on-base plus slugging percentage over 131 at-bats.
