Immediately following Jonathan Pettibone's solid debut, Charlie Manuel was unwilling to label the 22-year-old righty a member of his rotation. The Phillies never formally announced plans for Pettibone, but he threw a bullpen session Wednesday and will indeed start Saturday in New York.
"It looks that way," Manuel said. "He did well. He pitched pretty well."
The fifth spot in the rotation will come under constant evaluation while John Lannan is sidelined by a knee injury. He could miss two months. Lefthander Adam Morgan, viewed as the pitcher at triple-A with the highest ceiling, allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday for the IronPigs. He threw 104 pitches.
ATTENDANCE DROPS. Tuesday's announced crowd of 31,002 was the smallest at Citizens Bank Park since April 3, 2008. But it was the third-highest figure across baseball on Tuesday. Crowds were bigger in Texas and San Francisco.
