Jayson Werth feels need for speed, is busted for reckless driving

In a story that Jayson Werth is very likely thrilled to have in the public eye, the Nationals right fielder was reportedly busted for going 105 mph in a 55 mph zone back in early July. Werth will face a court hearing for the misdemeanor, which was scheduled for August 8, but has been bumped back to November 12.

Yes, apparently "Plaintiff has Playoff Aspirations" is a viable reason to move a court date.

Here is the Nationals carefully vague statement on the issue:

"The Washington Nationals have been in communication with right fielder Jayson Werth regarding this situation for multiple weeks," a Nationals spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement. "Jayson is cooperating with the authorities. As it is an ongoing legal matter, the team has no further comment."

What a massively irresponsible action by Werth. But hey, maybe there was a bee in the car, or Werth was having that waking nightmare he has sometimes about a giant pair of trimming sheers chasing him down the highway.

And that's it, that's the whole story. Which makes it not much of a story. Werth's forces of evil are undoubtedly out in the world already, smothering it as best they can.

This is the part of the post where I would fill blank space by telling you what Werth's current offensive numbers are, and that he's currently missing time due to a shoulder issue. Hell, maybe I'd event throw in a reminder about his contract for no reason! But I won't. Let's just end things here.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Jayson Werth is hitting .279/.370/.430 with 12 home runs and 63 RBI. He is getting tests done on his injured right shoulder. In 2010, he signed a $126 million, seven-year deal with the Nationals.
