Chad Billingsley to make major league return Tuesday

Chad Billingsley, who has made just two starts since 2012, will make his major league return Tuesday for the Phillies against the Atlanta Braves.

MIAMI --- Chad Billingsley, who has made just two starts since 2012, will make his major-league return Tuesday for the Phillies against the Atlanta Braves.

Billingsley, who underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2013 and a flexor tendon operation last June, signed with the Phillies in January to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million. The 30-year-old righthander made 190 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2006 to 2013.

After building up to 99 pitches in Thursday's rehab start, his fourth rehab outing with triple-A Lehigh Valley, Billingsley was deemed ready to join the Phillies' rotation. He will take the rotation spot of David Buchanan, who was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

The Phillies will need to make another move before Tuesday's game in Atlanta to accomodate the addition of Billingsley. They called up Elvis Araujo on Saturday, and the 6-foot-6 lefthanded reliever is expected to be available Sunday.
