The Phillies removed four more players from their 40-man roster Thursday by outrighting Roger Bernadina, Casper Wells, Cesar Jimenez and J.C. Ramirez to triple-A Lehigh Valley. The decisions on Bernadina and Wells were notable, considering both were eligible for arbitration later this winter.

Both Bernadina and Wells were acquired midseason as outfield fortifications and did not impress. Bernadina hit .187 with a .603 OPS in 27 games with the Phillies. Wells, best known as the losing pitcher while batting 0 for 7 in an 18-inning loss, was the property of five different teams in 2013. He hit .042 (1 for 24) with the Phillies.

Another outfielder, John Mayberry Jr., has survived the roster purge for now. He is eligible for arbitration and a non-tender candidate. Teams must make decisions on their arbitration players by Dec. 2.

Jimenez and Ramirez were bullpen fodder needed for the 162-game slog. Ramirez was one of the three players acquired for Cliff Lee in 2009.
