Asche continues hot streak in Phillies' fourth consecutive loss

Cody Asche continued his recent hot hitting in the Phillies' 6-1 loss to the Mets on Wednesday, tallying three more hits to give him 11 in his last 16 at-bats.

NEW YORK --- Cody Asche continued his recent hot hitting in the Phillies' 6-1 loss to the Mets on Wednesday, tallying three more hits to give him 11 in his last 16 at-bats. The 24-year-old third baseman doubled, singled, singled and walked only to find himself stranded on the basepaths each time.

Asche started the season 1 for 8. He will enter Thursday's series opener at Nationals Park boasting a .500 batting average (12 for 24).

The next-highest average among the Phillies regular is Freddy Galvis' .345 clip. The next-best after that is .250 (Odubel Herrera and Carlos Ruiz).

Wednesday marked Asche's second three-hit game in four days. He put together seven games of three or more hits last season over 121 games.

"Asche's swinging the bat well," manager Ryne Sandberg said. "I like the way against the lefthander he used the left-field stroke of his. He's had success against (Mets lefthander Jonathon) Niese in the past, so he was a good match-up tonight actually. He's got a good approach going."
