All Phillies coaches 'asked to return' for 2015 season

No Phillies coaches will lose their jobs as a result of a flawed roster's second straight 73-89 finish, the team announced Tuesday. But that does not mean Ryne Sandberg's staff will remain intact for 2015.

No Phillies coaches will lose their jobs as a result of a flawed roster's second straight 73-89 finish, the team announced Tuesday. But that does not mean Ryne Sandberg's staff will remain intact for 2015.

All seven of the coaches were "asked to return" for next season, the Phillies said in a statement. That does not mean they all want to return. The coaches are free to seek employment elsewhere before renewing their contracts with the team.

Sandberg, when assembling his first staff, said he wanted experience from his assistants. It is often said the most difficult task for a coach is to break veteran players of old habits, and that is a constant struggle for the Phillies.

The first-year manager was pleased with his group's effort.

"Everybody works together," Sandberg said last week. "It's a group that communicates on a daily basis. There is open discussion in all areas of the game."
