Phillies make roster moves

As expected Cliff Lee, who last pitched on May 18, was activated from the 60-day disabled list by the Phillies. In addition, infielder Reid Brignac and catcher Wil Nieves were activated from the 15-day disabled list.

As expected Cliff Lee, who last pitched on May 18, was activated from the 60-day disabled list by the Phillies. In addition, infielder Reid Brignac and catcher Wil Nieves were activated from the 15-day disabled list.

Outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. was designated for assignment. Infielder Cesar Hernandez was optioned to Lehigh Valley. And catcher Koyie Hill was outrighted off the 40-man roster.

Lee (4-4, 3.18) will start tonight against the San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park.

Brignac (ankle) was placed on the DL June 20. Nieves (right quad strain) was placed June 24, retroactive to June 19.

Gwynn provided solid defense but hit just .163 in 98 at-bats. Hill batted .238 in 21 at-bats.

Hernandez has batted .225 in 102 at-bats.
