Thursday’s announcement on national television made it official: Chester’s Rondae Jefferson is a McDonald's All-American.

And luckily for Jefferson, his aunt recorded the program. Jefferson was at practice, preparing for Friday night’s District 1 playoff game.

"It kind of hurts. I wanted to watch my name go across the screen,” he said.

The game will be played April 3 at the United Center, home of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls.

The 6-foot-7 forward is the Clippers’ first All-American since Herman Harris in 1973. Just as Harris did, Jefferson will play at the University of Arizona.

“It’s like a dream come true,” Jefferson said.

He joins Tyreke Evans as the Chester natives to play in the McDonald’s game, which dates to 1979. Evans went to American Christian Academy.

The two talked on the phone this month, and Evans told Jefferson he was proud of him.

“We set the trademark for the younger kids and showed them that this is possible with a lot of hard work,” Jefferson said.

Earlier this week, Jefferson was named to the East roster for the Jordan Brand Classic, scheduled for April 13 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He also will play for Team USA in the Nike Hoops Summit on April 20 in Portland, Ore.

His mother, Rylanda Hollis, plans to be at all three, and Jefferson hopes that his brother, Temple forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, will attend one of them.

The Hoops Summit will allow Jefferson the chance to represent his country, something he missed last summer because he suffered a shoulder injury before the under-17 world championship.

Instead of the college scouts Jefferson plays in front of regularly, he said the Hoops Summit will feature NBA scouts. But, the often-cool Jefferson said he feels no pressure.

“I just try to play basketball like no one is there,” he said. “Even if there is a defender guarding me in my face, I just imagine that he’s not even there.”
