Will Flyers alter odd lineup?

DETROIT _ Some of the Flyers' defensemen aren't in love with Craig Berube's recent format _ he has used seven blueliners in each of the last two games _ and it will be interesting to see if the second-year coach changes  the lineup Wednesday night in Detroit.

By using seven D-men, the pairings are scrambled, and it's difficult for the duos to build a chemistry.

It also leaves the team with only 11 forwards, forcing Berube to rotate a forward on the fourth line with Zac Rinaldo and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.

The lineup didn't work well as the New York Islanders outshot the Flyers, 46-21, en route to a 1-0 shootout win Monday. Berube has to decide whether it was the odd lineup or the upstart Islanders that caused the problems.

Flyers at the Joe. The Flyers will try to beat the Red Wings for the second time this season when they meet at Joe Louis Arena Wednesday.

A year ago, the Flyers scored four answered goals in the third period to jolt the host Red Wings, 6-3. Sean Couturier finished with two goals and a pair of assists as the Flyers won for just the second time in their last 20 regular-season games at the Joe since 1989-90.

Couturier and linemates Matt Read and Steve Downie had four of the team's six goals.

Last month, Brayden Schenn scored the game-winner as the Flyers rallied past Detroit, 4-2, at the Wells Fargo Center. The Red Wings had killed all 24 penalties this season before Schenn's power-play goal.

Breakaways. The Red Wings will decide after Wednesday's morning skate whether Pavel Datsyuk can return from a groin injury….Jake Voracek and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby are tied for the NHL scoring lead with 29 points…. The Flyers have allowed 2.90 goals per game, 22d in the 30-team NHL.  They are scoring 2.85 goals per game, tied for ninth in the league….The Flyers are last in the league on the penalty kill (73.1 percent success rate) and seventh (22.9 percent) on the power play.
