The Portland Winterhawks will advance to the Memorial Cup final game on Sunday in Saskatoon, Canada after defeating the London Knights 2-1 on Friday night.

Flyers prospect Anthony Stolarz took the bench in this game, as Jake Patterson was given the start in net for the Knights once again.

After a scoreless first period, draft prospect Max Domi gave the Knights the lead in the middle of the second period on the power play. He was assisted by teammates Olli Maatta and Seth Griffith.

Getting the early lead was not enough for the Knights, as the Winterhawks’ Tyler Wotherspoon followed it up with a goal of his own two minutes later. He was assisted by draft prospects Seth Jones and Nicolas Petan.

Petan was at the net again eight minutes into the third period alongside Derrick Pouliot as they assisted teammate Ty Rattie’s goal. Rattie’s wrist shot went top shelf above Patterson's left shoulder and sealed their 2-1 victory.

The Winterhawks advance to the final game and will go up against the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday to determine who will take home the Memorial Cup.

The Mooseheads are the only loss the Winterhawks had in the duration of the round robin tournament. Flyers prospect Taylor Leier still will not play due to experiencing “concussion like symptoms.”

The Mooseheads have a pretty stacked team with the duo of Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon, two forwards who will be selected high in the upcoming draft. They also boast a solid goaltender in Zach Fucale, who is the No. 1 ranked North American Goaltender.

The final game of the Memorial Cup will be a great prelude to the NHL Draft Combine which is set to take place on Monday, May 27 through to June 1. Fucale, MacKinnon, Drouin, Jones and Petan are all among the invitees and are expected to attend.
