Snider chimes in on horrific loss
Flyers chairman Ed Snider offered his take on his team's awful third period on Sunday in Washington.
Coming off a crippling loss, spirits were brighter than usual at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday. After a quick practice, the Flyers celebrated their annual company holiday party with an on-ice skate for everyone.
Injured forward Vinny Lecavalier and Zac Rinaldo surprised 17-year-old Jose Toledo from Northeast Philadelphia, who is battling a tumor on his brain stem, and invited him to the skate.
Lecavalier and Rinaldo posed for photos with Toledo and his family. In conjunction with the Flyers' Wives and local charity Michael's Way, the Flyers will help renovate the Toledo family's house in Wissinoming. The family had no idea the mini Home Makeover was coming.
"We'll take it and renovate it and probably present it to the family in the month of March," Michael's Way representative Chris McElwee said. "We'll send them away for the week, just like in the show. His bedroom will be refinished with other areas of the house."
Flyers chairman Ed Snider also stopped down to wish the Toledo family a Merry Christmas. The Toledo's haven't watched a ton of hockey, but became hockey fans on Monday.
Snider said because of the support from fans, the Flyers are able to do their part and give back to the community.
After it all, Snider chimed in on the state of his Flyers, following a horrific third period on Sunday in which they blew a three-goal lead in the final 9 minutes.
"I think we have to take a long, hard look at where we are and where we're going," Snider said. "We always do that. We're going to continue to do that. Whatever we can do to get the team over the hump, we're going to do.
"Obviously, we're not happy with giving up third period leads. This is something I think we can correct, something we're going to work to do - however we have to do it."
