Rangers' Kreider will miss showdown; Flyers sign Goumas?

Chris Kreider, the New York Rangers' speedy left winger, will miss Wednesday's showdown against the visiting Flyers because of a hand injury.

Chris Kreider, the New York Rangers' speedy left winger, will miss Wednesday's showdown against the visiting Flyers because of a hand injury.

TSN reported that Kreider _ who has 17 goals and 20 assists _ could miss a month.

The Rangers and Flyers have both won five of their last six games, and New York is riding a four-game winning streak.

A key to Wednesday's game will be the Flyers' potent power play against the Rangers' strong penalty kill.

The Flyers' road power play has clicked at a 25.8 percent success rate, tops in the NHL.

New York's penalty kill is 29 for 31 (93.5 percent) over the last 11 games, and it has four shorthanded goals in that span.

Goumas signed? The Flyers didn't confirm it, but it appears they have signed highly regarded free-agent Kevin Goumas, a high-scoring forward from the University of New Hampshire.

On Twitter, Goumas thanked friends who had congratulated him for signing with the Flyers.

Chris Pryor, the Flyers' scouting director, could not be reached Tuesday night.

The 5-10, 160-pound Goumas had 19 goals and 52 points in 40 games this season.

Breakaways. Flyers LW Vinny Lecavalier said it will be "weird" playing against his ex-Tampa Bay teammate, Martin St. Louis, who was recently acquired by the Rangers. St. Louis has 58 points in 45 career games against the Flyers.....Former Flyer Dan Carcillo and Zac Rinaldo had several skirmishes in the team' last meeting. Look for that to continue Wednesday......Sean Couturier and Nick Grossmann were given the day off Tuesday, when the Flyers practiced in Voorhees.
