Flyers reportedly sign Vorobyov; Simmonds finalist for NHL award

Highly regarded center Mikhail Vorobyov has signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers, according to TVA Sports.

The Flyers might confirm the signing later Wednesday.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Vorobyov was part of the Flyers' excellent 2015 draft class, which also included Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, and promising goalie Felix Sandstrom.

Vorobyov had 11 points in 44 games in Russia's KHL this season. He starred for Russia in the World Junior Championships, collecting 10 assists over seven games.

Vorobyov, 20, selected by the Flyers in the fourth round, will likely play for the AHL's Phantoms next season.

Simmonds a finalist. Flyers right winger Wayne Simmonds and Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic were named finalists for the NHL Foundation Player Award, whose criteria includes enriching the lives of people in his community. The NHL Foundation will present $25,000 to the winner's chosen charity. The winner will be announced in Las Vegas on June 20.

Draft lottery. The NHL's draft lottery, which is used to select the order of this year's first 15 picks, will be held Saturday night in Toronto. The Flyers have a 2.2 percent chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick. The lottery will also determine which teams select No. 2 and No. 3.

The draft will be held June 23-24 in Chicago.

Breakaways. Lehigh Valley will try to stay alive in its first-round series against host Hershey on Wednesday night. The Phantoms trail in the best-of-five matchup, two games to none. ...
