TORONTO _ A large contingent of Flyers’ front-office personnel and former players are in Toronto for Monday night’s induction of the late Fred Shero into hockey’s Hall of Fame.
Back home, the Flyers are practicing in Voorhees at 11 a.m. There is lots of improvement needed.
The Flyers, trying to build off their 4-2 win over lowly Edmonton Saturday, will play Bobby Ryan and the Senators Tuesday in Ottawa, starting a three-game trip that also takes them to Pittsburgh and Winnipeg.
The Flyers are 5-10-1, and the accompanying numbers reflect that:
- They are averaging 1.62 goals per game, 30th (last) in the NHL. The franchise-low for goals per game: 2.29 in 1968-69.
- The Flyers are 29th on the power play (9.4 percent success rate), 26th in shots per game (27.8), and 23d on faceoffs (48.7 percent success).
- Their 5 on 5 goals-for/goals-against ratio is 27th, at 0.59.
- They are doing well on the penalty kill (seventh, successful 85.3 percent of the time) and near the middle in goals-against average (18th at 2.75).
