Flyers sign another Union player

Senior Matt Hatch, a fleet left winger who helped Union College win the NCAA national championship last season, signed a free-agent contract Tuesday with the Flyers' top affiliate and will play for AHL Lehigh Valley.

"He's a gritty kid with high-end speed," Flyers GM Ron Hextall said.

Hatch, 24, is the second Union player in the Flyers' organization, joining defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.

Hextall said it was doubtful Hatch would be at the Flyers' training camp, but he didn't rule it out.

Hatch had 13 goals this season, then added four more in the post-season. In 148 career games, the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder had 34 goals and 39 assists. He was one of the team's top penalty killers.

Four players from Union have signed with NHL teams or their affiliates.
