Flyers recall Conner from Phantoms

The Flyers have recalled forward Chris Conner from their AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley.

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- With Pierre-Edouard Bellemare out for a few weeks with a lower-body injury and on the injured reserve list, the Flyers had an open roster spot to fill their maximum 23-man roster.

And with only around $673,000 in cap space, their options on who to recall from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms - their AHL affiliate - weren't aplenty.

On Sunday morning, the Flyers announced the recall of veteran forward Chris Conner from the Phantoms.

With center Sean Couturier (concussion) not on the trip, there's a chance Conner sees game action during the remaining four-game, Western Canada portion of this current five-game road trip.

Conner was not at practice Sunday when the Flyers took the ice at 1 p.m. (PST) at the Thunderbird Sports Centre on the campus of the University of British Columbia. He was still en route.

Conner, 31, a 5-foot-8 winger, was signed on July 1 to a two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $575,000 as a depth forward for instances exactly like this one. He has four goals and four assists for eight points in eight games for the Phantoms, one point behind Nick Cousins for the team-high.

Conner is a 10-year professional with NHL experience playing with Dallas, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Arizona and Washington. Last year he had 52 points in 61 games for the AHL's Hershey Bears. He had five points in 19 games while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2013-14.

The Flyers begin their Western Canada swing against the Vancouver Canucks Monday night.
