Flyers change start time of preseason game before papal visit

Pope Francis has caused yet another change to the city's weekend plans during - and in this case, before - his visit to Philadelphia.

While many of the city's preparations have been scrutinized, this one makes a ton of sense.

The Flyers announced Thursday afternoon they moved up puck drop for their September 25 preseason game against the Islanders from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. to help alleviate travel concerns.

We wrote earlier in the month about the potential problems the original start time would present logisitically with road closures starting at 10 p.m. across much of the city.

"The change in time is to accomodate the City of Philadelphia's preparations for the Pope's visit and to make it easier for fans to navigate travel restrictions," the press release says.

Fans who attend will be rewarded with some free food and drink. Hot dogs, pretzels and soft drinks will all be free of charge. Additionally, merchandise will be 50 percent off at the Fan Zone powered by Reebok store, the 47 store and other retail stands inside of Wells Fargo Center.

The Islanders game is the third of six Flyers preseason games before October 8's season-opening game in Tampa Bay.
